GOOD QUESTIONS
A little clarity.
A lot of confidence.
You don’t need to know the technology.
You should know where your photos go.
Where do my photos actually go?
Your chosen photos are uploaded to NanoStore, an online storage provider. Private photos are encrypted on your computer first, so the provider stores unreadable copies. Your original files stay where they are. Today, Pocket supports one online copy per photo.
How is this different from a cloud drive?
Pocket combines private-by-default photo backup with collections and storage you choose for a set period. You hold the decryption keys and approve each storage purchase. This early version focuses on deliberate photo backup; it doesn’t watch device folders or offer shared client galleries. Sign in to the same account to recover your saved library.
Can I share a photo on my website?
Yes. Choose public when uploading and copy the public link after it’s saved. Anyone with that link can view or download the photo while it’s available. Keep its storage renewed while you use the link. A public copy can’t be made secret again after someone has saved it. Private group sharing and client galleries are not available yet.
What happens when storage runs out?
The Backups view shows when your online copies need renewal. Renew before they expire to keep them available. There are no automatic charges or email reminders today. After expiry, the provider may remove its copy, so keep your originals and check Backups regularly.
What if I lose my computer?
Keep your account recovery backup somewhere safe. Sign in to the same account on a new computer to recover your saved library while your online storage is active. An exported library file is an optional extra backup. Unfinished uploads still need the original device. Pocket cannot replace your private keys if you lose them.
Can I start using it today?
Yes. The early-access app is available for Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or later) running macOS 12 or later. Photo hosting requires a funded Metanet account; credit-card balance top-ups are not available yet. You can explore the sample without an account or payment. Intel Mac and Windows versions are not available.
Curious about the technology?
Private photos use AES-256-GCM encryption. Content-based addresses help find and verify your stored files; larger private uploads use chunked delivery. A Metanet account powers your keys and small storage payments behind the scenes. It doesn’t put your private photos on a public blockchain. Account recovery and library export remain important.
Life is for living.
Keep a little of it.
